From research to decision making for fire risk mitigation at WUI
In the afternoon of the 29th of April 2019 in Marseille, Palais du Pharo
The WUI-Net Project is aimed at federating in a unique network research Institutions, decision making actors for land planning and risk management, and firefighting services, in order to favor the emergence of relevant research questions from the decision making requirements as well as favor knowledge transfer from research to decision making on WUI topics.
After a first national meeting held on the 6th of December 2018 in Aix-en-Provence, the WUI-Net Workshop to be hold as a side event of the 6th FBF Conference Marseille 2019 will be a change to widely open the network to some worldwide experiences, from Europe to Australia and the United States.
The workshop will be organized around 4 presentations of international contexts, cases and experiences in regard to WUI issues:
- Raphaele Blanchi/Justuin Leonard (CSIRO, Australia): The Australian case
- Chris Dicus (Cal Poly University, USA): The Californian and US case
- Mikele Salis (University of Sassari, Italy): Experiences in Sardinia
- Michel Bacou (CEREMA, France): Decision Support in France
On the bases of these appraisal presentations, attenders will be invited to participate to one of the proposed thematic working groups:
- working group on fire ecology and fuel management at WUI,
- working group on land management and planning for risk mitigation at WUI,
- working group on anthropogenic vulnerability to fire and firefighting at WUI
The groups should gather researchers and decision makers (including firefighter) from different national contexts. Their mission will be: to compare the relative contextual (national) situations regarding fire risk management at WUI, to identify some key research questions required by decision makers, to propose solutions for a better transfer from research to decision… Each group would designate a kind of “reporter” who would be able to restitute the group’s work.[:]
